Each year, we celebrate a number of important dates that are reflective of our people and organisation. The aim of these events is to foster a sense of belonging at work, where culture and inclusion is demonstrated, and not just buzz words.

If you celebrate any other special days within your culture, please let us know by emailing the Culture and Inclusion team.

Lunar New Year

Lunar New Year, also known as Spring Festival, Seollal, or Tết among different cultures is celebrated by many people around the world, including Australia.

It is a celebration to honour ancestors, and is also a time to visit family, share meals, and exchange gifts. Each festival carries with it stories and values that reflect the experiences of those who celebrate it.

The timing of Lunar New Year is based on the lunisolar calendar, starting on the first new moon of the year and ending with the first full moon. This year, Lunar New Year occurs on January 29.

As Lunar New Year approaches, it’s a great opportunity for everyone to celebrate the richness of our community. When we approach diverse traditions with curiosity and respect, we not only deepen our understanding of various cultures but also of the people behind them. This fosters empathy and helps us form stronger connections with our colleagues, creating a more inclusive and supportive workplace.

Even if you do not personally observe these celebrations, by taking a moment to acknowledge diverse traditions and experiences, we can open ourselves up to understanding each other a bit more.
