In alignment with our Strategic Plan, we are committed to embedding Active Support in all services and ensuring 100% of our frontline workers receive Active Support training.
Active Support empowers people we support by making them equal partners in decision-making, planning, goal setting, and care monitoring. This approach means we actively help people we support achieve tasks on their own while providing the necessary assistance.

Benefits of Active Support
- We prioritise safety by creating a secure environment free from violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
- We boost quality of life by prioritising the wellbeing and life satisfaction of people we support.
- We ensure consistency by delivering a standardised, high-quality approach to support.
- We invest in the upskilling of employees and leaders to prioritise daily personal growth and development for those we support while boosting job satisfaction.

Our Focus
We are moving away from old ways of thinking to focus on a modern, person-centered approach because:
- We recognise that each person has unique support needs and goals.
- We want to ensure our practices reflect our organisational values and strategic goals

Delivering Best Practice Care
Our goal is for all employees to feel confident in delivering best-practice care. We are starting with a pilot Active Support training with frontline leaders and workers. Feedback from this pilot will refine our approach before a broader rollout.
- New frontline employee training: All frontline employees will undergo a 2-day in-person Active Support training to equip them with the necessary tools.
- Leadership training: Frontline leaders will also receive training to better support their teams.

What are we doing?
We are excited to pilot our Active Support training, the first step in embedding Active Support practices in our daily work with people we support.
What is Active Support?
Active Support means that people we support are equal partners in decision-making, planning, goal setting, and care monitoring. We work closely with people we support to help them do things on their own, while being there to lend a hand when needed.
Active Support recognises that people are the experts on their needs and preferences. It is a modern approach to disability care that acknowledges there is no one size fits all approach, with every person having different support needs.
This approach ensures we prioritise person-centred practices every day, giving opportunities for personal growth and development.
Don’t we already provide Active Support?
Yes, Active Support practices are already a regular practice at Endeavour Foundation. This training will standardise our Active Support practices across our organisation, ensuring everyone is aligned in our approach to person-centred service and contribute to a consistent, high-quality support environment.
Why are we rolling out training?
In line with our Strategic Plan, we are focused on embedding Active Support in all services and training 100% of frontline workers. Active Support is how we can create a safe environment where people we support are safe from violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation. We want all employees to feel confident to deliver best-practice care to people we support.
Were we at risk before without this training?
No, it simply creates consistency and ensures we provide care that is sensitive to trauma, active and engaging, and is centred around the person we support.
Active Support training allows our teams to actively approach their work to create a sense of safety and continuity, helping people feel happy, experience humour, share experiences, build a sense of autonomy and experience choice and control.
How will this training impact my daily work?
Active Support training will enhance how you provide care to people we support by prioritising their needs and choices. It involves them in everyday tasks, making your interactions more meaningful and empowering for people in our services. This approach aligns with our strategic goal of ensuring that individuals have greater choice, control and a higher quality of life.
Who will need to complete this training?
All frontline workers and leaders are required to participate in the Active Support training. However, leaders will participate in an additional two days of practice leadership training designed to support their teams to deliver person-centred support consistently across our organisation.
What does the training involve?
- Pre-course questionnaire: This questionnaire (completed via Engage) will help us determine your level of understanding of Active Support. The pre-course questionnaire is not a test. It is designed to gauge your understanding and readiness for the training and helps ensure we deliver appropriate content for you.
- Face-to-face training: Two consecutive days of in-depth training where you will learn and practice Active Support principles.
- Hands-on observations checklist: After the training, your site leader will observe you applying what you’ve learned in your daily work and complete a checklist. This step ensures that the training translates into practical, everyday application, reinforcing our commitment to quality and consistency.
Where will the training sessions be held?
Training sessions will be conducted face-to-face at various locations. Based on feedback from previous projects, we know that our staff prefer in-person training for its interactive and engaging format. Specific dates and venues will be available on Engage.
What happens after I complete the training?
After completing the training, you will continue to receive support from your site leader and Active Support Champions. Regular team meetings, coaching, and feedback sessions will help reinforce your skills and ensure you consistently apply Active Support practices in your work.
Who are Active Support Champions?
Active Support Champions are selected individuals within each region who will facilitate ongoing training sessions and provide additional support. These Champions play a vital role in embedding Active Support practices within their teams, offering guidance, and ensuring consistency in training delivery.
How does this training align with our strategic plan?
This training aligns with our strategic plan by promoting person-centred practices, enhancing the quality of life for people we support, and ensuring their safety and wellbeing. Success comes from our commitment and consistent practice, making a significant impact on the lives of people we support.
