On Thursday 12 September, R U OK? Day inspired teams across our services to embrace the importance of checking in with each other. Recent research found that people who are regularly asked if they are okay feel more supported, connected and cared about. That’s why this year, R U OK? called on people to ask ‘R U OK? Any Day’.
This message was echoed at Townsville L&L, with the team glowing in their yellow-themed outfits as they gathered to enjoy a delightful morning tea and sausage sizzle. People we support expressed their feelings through art by creating emojis that captured their moods. They also used chalkboard speech bubbles to aid R U OK? conversations with their friends.

Meanwhile, on the Gold Coast, Tugun housemate, Maggie, and Home Site Supervisor, Karmari-Rose Wood, rolled up their sleeves to bake a batch of delicious R U OK? Day cupcakes. Their goal was to spread joy and awareness among staff and fellow housemates.
In Southport, celebrations continued as SIL housemates decorated their spaces in yellow and gathered for a morning tea filled with laughter and heartfelt conversations.
R U OK? Day serves as a powerful reminder of how a simple question can profoundly impact someone’s sense of support, connection and care. Let’s embrace this year’s theme and make it a regular practice to check in on each other not just on special days, but any day.
