We could all use a little more kindness

With everything that is happening in the world at the moment, we can all agree, a little kindness goes a long way. Rommaney McAullay, Site Manager at Mackay social enterprise, came up with the idea of doing something to celebrate Kindness Day.

Kindness Week began as Kindness Day in 1997, when several humanitarian organisations got together to make a Declaration of Kindness. Even the smallest acts of kindness, from making donations, to telling someone you are proud of them, help to create a society that is more empathetic and kinder.

The team in Mackay decided to get everyone involved in an activity where you are given a leaf where you can write one kind thing about a team member or work colleague. Rommaney said,

Some people were supported to write their kind messages, but they were very definite about what they wanted to say when verbalising to the team member who wrote the note for them.

In the end, everyone at the site participated and everyone had a something kind written down about them. By the time the leaves went on the wall, it was a beautiful tapestry of empowering words. Rommaney continued,

The leaves were read out and the whole group were smiling and feeling good and accepted.

After the success of this simple but effective activity, and in the spirit of kindness, Rommaney and team wanted to share how special this was in the hope that other sites might choose to do something similar.

Thanks to all at Mackay social enterprise, your ripples of kindness will continue well beyond the calendar event 🌻
