Tony overcomes barriers to build a better future

Referred to Community Solutions in 2022, Tony faced significant obstacles on his journey toward employment and social reintegration. Struggling with mental health issues, PTSD, a criminal record, drug addiction and transport challenges, Tony also battled the stigma of being an ex-offender. His severe anxiety and paranoia made it difficult for him to engage in programs like Work for the Dole and sustain stable employment.

Community Solutions provided Tony with a safe and welcoming environment, easing his initial anxieties with familiar faces like Business Leader, Shane Golding. Tony engaged in tailored support services, including Back to Work Psychology, Drug and Alcohol programs, driving lessons, and other psychological services, to address his specific barriers. Regular mentoring appointments built trust and rapport with his support team, while his partner’s encouragement helped him stay motivated outside the office.

Tony’s determination was put to the test when he was challenged to attend a job interview with little preparation. With guidance and support from his mentors, Tony received assistance with interview attire and overcame his anxiety to face the opportunity head on.

We are pleased that Tony’s hard work has paid off securing casual employment with CMBM Facilities, a role that aligns with his strengths and allows him to work independently. Over six months, he has:

  • Maintained employment while managing his ongoing challenges.
  • Purchased a 4×4 ute, enabling family adventures to beaches and waterfalls.
  • Provided Christmas presents for his family, a milestone he cherishes deeply.

Tony’s journey showcases the power of personalised support and mentorship. He credits Community Solutions for his progress, expressing gratitude for their care and encouragement.

Amazing work Tony and Community Solutions!
