“Serving so many purposes” – Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)

Beginning his career in disability support work less than 18 months ago, Bradley completed a Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) over three school terms as part of our Endeavour Foundation study group.

Bradley jumped at the opportunity to complete a qualification when he saw an Expression of Interest Form in the Your Weekly Update.

He started the course in February 2023 and although he found it quite fast paced, he was able to move quickly through the study modules.

Being hands on at work has made it a lot easier as well.

A lot of our daily tasks at work align quite nicely with some of the learning and understanding involved.

Bradley participated in a weekly, hour long Zoom meeting and would stay online for a few more hours after to complete the study modules.

I found it only took four to five hours a week of study to be in advance of where I needed to be.

That weekly study block meant I was always ahead and on top of my study.

Bradley’s direct leaders and managers helped along the way, and he had a workplace supervisor who helped with logs and training records.

Throughout Bradley’s study period he told us there was plenty of support from Endeavour Foundation and from TAFE.

All in all, the process was pretty seamless.

All the tools that we have at Endeavour Foundation make you feel grateful for our workplace and the services we are providing to the people we support.

TAFE and Endeavour Foundation are very flexible and understanding of work life balance and will work with you if you need more time to complete modules.

There are so many aspects of the Certificate that have added to the delivery of better services for the people we support.

Bradley created a contact log of services for one of the modules in his study. He said this was “super relevant” and he has used it multiple times in real life scenarios since.

There was study on being self-aware which taught a great deal of life skills.

These skills help you to be a good person all round, not just in the workplace.

Funnily enough, all of Bradley’s classmates were his colleagues as well!

We all ended up pretty close, even know we are based all throughout Australia and worked in all different areas of Endeavour Foundation.

They still have a group chat on Teams and regularly communicate about what’s going on in everyone’s work and personal life.

It is great to have that camaraderie with a group of colleagues.

Bradley’s move into support work is a big change from his previous role managing a tyre shop.

Initially I wanted to try something completely different, and I always had an interest in helping out people,

Bradley has really enjoyed the change, and making a difference in people’s lives has been great for him. He started at Endeavour Foundation as a support worker and is now a Home Site Supervisor.

I threw my hat in the ring to become a Home Site Supervisor after nine months of working at Endeavour Foundation.

Bradley one hundred percent recommends doing the Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability).

It serves so many purposes and is a great starting platform to bridge into to other areas, like mental health or positive behaviour.
