We’re excited to share that our 2025 Tax Appeal is about to launch, and this year, it’s all about empowering people with disability to speak up, be heard and shape their own futures.
What we’re raising funds for
This year’s appeal will support the development of the Self-Advocacy Network, a powerful new initiative that will train and empower people we support to:
- Advocate for their rights and needs
- Influence decision-making in areas that impact their lives
- Build confidence and skills to inspire change in their communities
The Self-Advocacy Network is a key step in advancing our advocacy mission: making sure the voices of people with disability are not only heard, but respected and valued.
It will have the potential to bring together people from around the country to further their self-advocacy skills, and showcase the strength, dignity and leadership of people with disability who want to speak for themselves, not be spoken for.

Meet Chloe
Since 2018, Chloe has been a dedicated employee of Mackay social enterprise.
Recently, Chloe has been working in a business development and marketing capacity, proactively engaging with local businesses to promote the products and services of Mackay social enterprise and explore potential new business opportunities.
Chloe’s dedication to advocacy has led her to join our Client Advisory Group, a platform where people we support can share their insights and contribute to shaping our future programs and resources.
Getting our opinions out there and making sure we are heard about the things that are important to us, the things we want, that’s really important,
I think it’s giving people [with disability] an opportunity to raise concerns but also show their ideas to other people.
Chloe would be interested in taking her advocacy further with the right training.
I think speaking in front of people is hard, I can get nervous, I’m better in a small group. But I’d also like the opportunity to speak to councils or government about improving opportunities and systems for people with disability.
Chloe wants to make sure that people with disability are not just spoken about, but that they are heard, respected and given the same opportunities as everyone else.
I want people to know that we’re here and we want to be heard. We don’t want to be in the background and for other people to speak for us.
