Mya’s talents ‘tote’ally shine at Cotton On

We are no strangers to Qart’s Mya Wilson’s talents, after seeing her beautiful artwork ‘Joy‘ being used as the centerpiece for our RAP (you can read more here). Mya has continued to grow as an artist and after celebrating many achievements this year, she has had a very exciting early Christmas gift. Cotton On, who we are sure you’ve seen in almost every large shopping centre, is now stocking tote bags bearing Mya’s design!

Cotton On interviewed Mya about this wonderful news and you can see this on their Instagram page.

Mya’s art helps her to celebrate her community, which she is so proud of as a Wurundjeri woman. She uses colours and designs which represent nature and the way she feels. This piece reminds her of the joy and calm she feels when playing with her dog and walking with friends along the river.

Mya would say that she is a quiet person and she uses art as a way to express herself, and that she would like others to interpret her work in their own way, and make up a story of what it means to them.

This year Mya has completed and had her artworks displayed at schools, creative spaces, and exhibitions (even at Parliament House), done various commission pieces, even a NAIDOC piece for the Hawthorn Hockey Club, just to name a few things.

On her Instagram profile, Mya says:

My abstract artwork and contemporary style of modern day indigenous art creates the power of imagination and individuality in the viewer. I get list in my painting, letting my instincts and creativity guide my hand.
