Move helps housemates spread their wings

Belinda, Ian and Nicole have made a temporary move, joining ten new housemates on the Gold Coast in Southport while their home of 25 years in Burleigh Heads is being renovated.

Home Site Supervisor,Ty Gallaher, Home Team Leader, Jade Wells, and their teams from both homes have guided the transition to be smooth and empowering for all. They said the new dynamic has been invigorating for everyone with the new housemates demonstrating more independence and encouraging others to do the same.

Leading up to the move, Ty facilitated lots of time for Belinda, Ian and Nicole to talk through the change, pack and decide what to put in storage.

Jade, the team and the ten existing housemates of 30 years talked about the change and all understood they could continue to talk through any issues that might arise.

Ty and Jade made sure the new housemates felt at home, welcomed and included by setting up their rooms as they wanted and ensuring they were comfortable with their new team.

Belinda is thriving at her Southport home and is thinking about staying there permanently but will wait until she sees the new renovation before making a final decision. Her self-regulation had improved, and she is enjoying having housemates and support workers from her L&L in her home. Another positive is her pet bird has also made new friends with the two other pet birds in the house.

Nicole and Ian have also settled in well with their new housemates, who they work with or have worked with in the past.  Nicole is loving having more female housemates. For both of them, the biggest bonus is that they can walk to work and sleep in just that bit longer on work days.
