Lynne the horse whisperer

Enquine Therapy has been said to have many advantages, and is attributed to benefits such as better communication, improved social skills and stress reduction.

Meet Lynne Pennisi. Lynne has been supported by our Ingham Mobile team since 1988 and living independently at Forrest Beach since 1996.

Lynne was first introduced to equine therapy as a trial to see if she would enjoy it. From the very first session, she fell in love with the ponies and has been attending regularly ever since. Now, every fortnight, she makes the 80-kilometre journey to participate in this rewarding activity.

Equine therapy has given Lynne a newfound sense of responsibility and independence. She has learned how to care for the ponies, including brushing them and leading them around the farm. The sessions also include engaging motor skill activities, such as playing card games and tossing hoops. Lynne’s support workers have noticed a remarkable difference in Lynne – she has become more physically active, more confident, and more willing to try new experiences.

The therapy was initially introduced to all residents at Lynne’s home, but she and one other housemate were the ones who truly connected with it and chose to continue. It was suggested as a way to encourage Lynne to get out of the house, stay active, and meet new people, and it has done exactly that.

Reflecting on Lynne’s journey, one of her support workers shared:

When I first met Lynne it was hard to motivate her to try new activities. But since she started going to the horses and even the gym, she has become so much more active and engaged. She now willingly helps her housemates with their tasks and has gained so much confidence in herself. It’s been incredible to see her blossom.

Lynne’s story is a perfect example of how the right support and opportunities can help people grow, build confidence, and embrace new experiences. We look forward to seeing Lynne continue to thrive!
