When Leah moved to Townsville in July 2024, she had one clear goal in mind: to find meaningful, sustainable employment. With the support of Community Solutions’ Disability Employment Services (DES), Leah achieved that goal faster than she ever imagined!
Leah joined Community Solutions on 9 July 2024, and our team immediately got to work. Together, we explored job opportunities that aligned with her interests and needs. Through introductions and meetings with local employers, Leah connected with Dan Gardening and Landscaping, where she completed a work trial on 19 July 2024. The fit was perfect, so much so that Leah was offered casual work right after her trial!
To ensure a smooth start, Community Solutions provided Leah with weekly support during her initial weeks on the job. Landscaping is physically demanding, so we assisted her with PPE, a cooling vest and even petrol to help make the transition easier. Despite never having done this kind of work before, Leah committed herself to learning, working hard through long days in the heat.
Her efforts didn’t go unnoticed. By 5 August 2024, less than a month after her work trial, Leah was offered permanent employment. She was ecstatic, sharing how thrilled she was to finally have ongoing, secure work.
It’s great to have sustainable, ongoing, secure employment.
Now thriving in her role, Leah is managing her responsibilities independently, and we couldn’t be prouder of her growth. While we continue to check in to ensure she maintains a healthy balance, Leah is a shining example of how DES support and determination can transform lives.
