When Cyclone Alfred hit South-East Queensland and Northern NSW, it left a trail of damage at many of our sites. At the Lawnton L&L, fallen branches, scattered debris, and thick mud covered the outdoor areas, a reminder of the storm’s destructive force.
The morning after the storm, everyone at the L&L felt a sense of sadness for a brief moment, as they looked around at the mess, until they felt spark of determination. Together this clean-up IS possible! Without hesitation, staff and the people we support rolled up their sleeves and got to work. There was no need for instructions—everyone knew what needed to be done.
Laughter mixed with hard work as everyone found a way to contribute. Some cleared pathways, others wiped down walls, while some sorted through damaged supplies. From lending a hand with small tasks to lifting broken furniture, every effort counted.
Staff members didn’t just direct from the sidelines—they worked right alongside everyone else, showing the true meaning of leadership, rolling up their sleeves, grabbing their mops and brooms, and joining the collective effort.
The people we support were incredible, active participants taking pride in each task and supporting one another along the way.
