Gladstone local, Kyra Dunnett, is no longer working towards her dream job she’s working in it.

Recently appointed the casual position of Library Assistant at the Gladstone City Library, a role she has worked towards since she was little, 29 year old Kyra insists, despite her success, her journey is one of perseverance, backed by the support of her family, and community.
The library has played a massive part in my life ever since I was a young. I have been a volunteer library assistant in some form, for years.

“It’s my happy place and it’s where I feel safe. I could be assisting at the front desk, restacking books, printing out activity sheets for the kids, or just tidying tables – it’s a place I know I belong and where I’m going to achieve so much,” Kyra said.
However, in order to secure her dream gig, Kyra knew her work experience alone, wouldn’t be enough
That’s when she met with the Community Solutions Gladstone team, to help upskill her credentials and improve her social abilities.
Working with Recruitment Partner, Kristy Sturzaker, Kyra spent over a year in a flexible working environment, where she completed a Certificate 3 in Library and Information Services, while honing interview techniques, improving her people skills and building self-confidence.
Looking back now, I realise I wouldn’t have been ready for the role any earlier. Before going to Community Solutions, I was a lot quieter. But now I’ve found my voice, and through my training, have greater working skills and I know where I’m going,”

Kristy agrees, saying Kyra’s determination to grow from her learnings played a key part in her success today.
“By the time the Library Assistant role came around again, she was ready. She kept saying as she was filling in the application form, ‘this is my time’ … and so it was.”
“When we found out she was offered the role, I felt so incredibly proud. As a Recruitment Partner, we live for moments like these to create possibilities, and celebrate the realisation of dreams coming true.”
She cried. I cried. And at that moment, we both knew, it was her time, she’d finally done it,
