The World Down Syndrome Congress (WDSC), led by Down Syndrome International (DSI), is an annual event for people with Down syndrome, families, advocates, and professionals from around the world to meet and share their knowledge and experiences.
Like us, DSI is committed to creating a better world where all people with Down syndrome are fully included in society.
Our visionary CEO, David Swain, and Defence Support Assistant (DSA), Jane Hopkins, attended the congress to co-present The Future of Disability Employment.

Their mission? To emphasise how each of us plays a role in championing the right of persons with disabilities to work on an equal basis with others, a core principle outlined in the UN Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
With over 20 years of work experience in diverse roles and locations, including 13 years at Endeavour Foundation, Jane knows first-hand the incredible contributions that people with disability can make when working in an environment that is open, inclusive and accessible.
For the past year, she has worked as a DSA in the Defence Assistance Program (DAP) at Gallipoli Barracks in Brisbane where support is tailored to her needs and goals.
“Our partnership with Defence to provide Hosted Supported Employment for people with disability through DAP is more than just an employment initiative; it is a testament to the power of inclusion,” David said.
When asked what makes a good workplace, Jane said:
“Teamwork for one, supporting others and being treated with respect.”
David and Jane called on other employers to not just open their doors to people with disability but to actively pave the way for success through tailored accommodations and unwavering support.
Each of us has a role to play. Consider how you use your voice, your influence and your resources to create positive change.
— David Swain
In the words of Jane, “If you put your mind to it, you can do anything.”
Their message resonated far beyond the congress walls, calling for collective action to break down barriers and nurture environments where everyone can thrive.
Thank you for your contributions in creating a world where inclusion isn’t just a concept but a lived reality for people we support.
