It’s never Okay! Raising awareness of Domestic and Family Violence

Trigger Warning: Domestic and Family Violence

Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) is a difficult but important topic, particularly for women with disability who are almost twice as likely to experience DFV than women without a disability. 1

We are really pleased to contribute to a Queensland Government video as part of a new DFV awareness resource pack for women with disability.

The aim of the resources is to raise awareness for women with disability about DFV, help them identify DFV and access support services.

Spotlighting Donna’s video contribution

A big thank you to Donna Brookes, a person we support, who participated in the video in a paid speaking role, delivering scripted lines telling women with disability that DFV is ‘never okay.’

Donna, who does not have personal experience with DFV, was fully supported throughout the process to ensure she was always informed and felt empowered in her decision to participate in the making of this important video.

In between takes, Donna shared stories with the crew about her passions; writing about her feelings, gardening and doing things on the computer at the Coopers Plains Learning and Lifestyle Hub.

You can find all of the DFV awareness resource for women with disability on the Queensland Government website: https://www.qld.gov.au/disability/adults/domestic-violence-support.

“It felt good being a part of this video.”
