The Work Portfolio have been running a 5S program to develop and maintain safe and clean workplaces. It aims to ensure:
- areas are SORTED out by assessing what is needed and what is not,
- processes are SET in order,
- surroundings are clean and SHINY,
- STANDARDS are followed, and
- improvements are SUSTAINED.

As part of the program, teams selected areas on-site to improve, developed an action plan and implemented changes together. They were also invited to submit videos of their progress for a competition where the team with the most improved site would win 5S Hero badges to wear with pride and a BBQ lunch cooked by GM of Business Solutions, Simon Cook!
Employees were very creative with their video submissions, and after a tough judging process, first place was awarded to Townsville social enterprise!
Hear from Pamela Rosser, Peta Mccarthy, Drew Anderson, Shyanne Murray and Production Managers, Stuart Johnstone and Melissa Te Waaka about one of the areas they chose for the program and the actions they took to SORT, SET IN ORDER, SHINE, STANDARDISE, and SUSTAIN.
The team were amazing in the way they became actively involved in the whole process and were proud to show off their progress along the way.
They not only achieved some fantastic improvements, but also filmed a catchy musical number to help everyone remember the five steps.
The 5S program fostered more camaraderie within the team, which led to strengthened relationships. They all loved seeing themselves in the videos and performing in them.
The production floor is also more organised, employees have taken pride in maintaining their areas, the atmosphere is more relaxed and fun, and production has increased.
High fives to all teams who entered and worked to make their site more clean, efficient and safe!
