It’s all smiles at the Mackay Business Solutions site, with Supported Employees attending their Get Work Ready award ceremony last week, celebrating the completion of the first part of their Thrive Learning @ Work program.
Production Team Leader Michael Dibdin said the program has been a tremendous success, with the Supported Employees finding new confidence thanks to the open learning format.
“We put our books on the table and we discuss all the answers as a group, so it helps the people who might be shy or might not understand start speaking up.
“It’s been great. People who didn’t talk at all during the first few weeks are now firing out answers and participating in the group discussion,” Michael said.
“Now when I walk through the site, people are shouting out ‘hey, Michael’ across the floor. It’s been really great for bringing the group together.”
Michael said the program content for Get Work Ready has also helped the Supported Employees bring their best selves to work.
“The first module is about figuring out your unique personality type, and how you can use your unique personality traits at work to be the best version of yourself. So, kind of celebrating everyone’s uniqueness,” he said.
“The Dress for Success content was good too. We looked at appropriate dress and grooming for work, and they started realizing that when I look better at work, I feel better.
“After that module I had a few people really start making an effort to come to work in clean clothes, which is something they weren’t doing a whole lot. You could really see they felt better doing it.”
Michael said the completion of Get Work Ready has been a real highlight for the group.
“They have a real sense of pride and achievement when they finish a program. They’ve done a lot of hard work and are proud of their workbooks. It’s good to see.”
