Can you help a person with disability stay digitally connected?

Staying connected to community is something that is important to us all, whether in person, or online. It’s not only good for our mental health and wellbeing, but for many it’s essential in emergency situations, such as natural disasters.

The Queensland Disability Network (QDN) has initiated a project called ‘The Digital Inclusion Project’, which aims to bridge the digital divide and reduce barriers for people with disability to get online.

The project aims to help people with disability to:

  • Get access to digital devices.
  • Make informed decisions around affordable data.
  • Learn skills and digital ability to get online and stay connected.

To do this, QDN has partnered with Volunteering QLD and GIVIT, a national not-for-profit organisation that matches generosity with genuine need through an online platform, to get devices that have been donated to the people who need it most.

How can you help?

  1. Go to the Digital Inclusion Appeal page on the GIVIT website or scan the QR code below with your mobile device.
  2. Choose to donate a requested device or donate an item not listed.
  3. Complete the fields and ‘submit item’.
  4. Give yourself a pat on the back. Thank you for helping someone to digitally connect 💜.

Do you know a person with disability who would benefit from having a digital device?

This may be the answer! The project can support people with disability who:

  • Are between 18-65 years old;
  • Live in Brisbane, Gympie, Moreton Bay (Caboolture, Deception Bay & surrounds);
  • Don’t own a device or own an outdated device;
  • Need support to use their devices confidently; and
  • Aren’t eligible to get funding for a device through other programs.

If you can tick the above boxes, or have some more questions, contact QDN (1300 363 783) or visit the QDN website for more information.

You can also complete an enquiry form (2 min).

Free Virtual Workshops

Throughout March to June, QDN is hosting free virtual workshops, exploring how to use technology with a key focus on accessing information and services during an emergency or disaster, staying safe online, social connectedness, and building confidence in using a digital device.

These are co-designed workshops, run by people with disability for people with disability, and will be delivered by peer Digital Champions.

Do you know someone who needs assistance getting online? Learn more about the Digital Inclusion modules and register on QDN’s website.
