Des Ryan retires after nearly 30 amazing years!

It’s not every day that you get to celebrate a career as remarkable as Des Ryan’s. After almost three decades with Community Solutions, Des retired in December 2024, leaving behind an incredible legacy of advocacy, leadership and heart.

Des started with Community Employment Options (who later merged with Community Solutions) in April 1996. From day one, he’s been a passionate advocate for people with disability, working to create opportunities and champion inclusion. His work has touched countless lives, not just within our organisation but across Central Queensland and beyond.

Over the years, Des wore many hats. Whether he was helping resolve issues as a Case Coordinator, driving innovation in IT roles, or shining as our Community Relations Ambassador in Rockhampton, Des gave 110% to everything he did. He also found time to lead community projects like the iconic ‘Accessible Pub Crawl,’ youth suicide prevention events, and the Rockhampton River Run.

Of course, Des’s efforts didn’t go unnoticed. He’s racked up some impressive accolades, including an Order of Australia, a commemorative medal from Disability Employment Australia (DES), two Rotary Paul Harris Fellow awards, and recognition as a Companion of Central Queensland University.

To celebrate Des and his amazing career, we hosted a retirement party at the Rockhampton office, to thank Des for the profound impact he’s had on our team and the community.

We share a heartfelt thank you to Des. His passion and dedication have left a lasting mark, and he will be missed dearly.

Here’s to a happy, well-earned retirement – you’ve earned it!
