David’s mustering all his energy for a big weekend of music!

David McConnell, is well known around our Toowoomba sites. He has been a devoted worker at the Toowoomba social enterprise for 42 years, lives with his housemates at Centenary Heights, attends the L&L and is active in his community through Community Access (COMAC).

In August, David was excited to head to Gympie for the world famous Gympie Music Muster. The Gympie muster is held in August of each year and is known for its consideration of accessibility access.

David used the days leading up to the event to get organised with his support worker, packing everything he needed for the trip away. As a guitar player, and keen country music lover, David enjoys jumping up on the stage for dance.

Asked if David used the accessibility platform for the festival, Home Site Supervisor, Awien Thiik, said,

David didn’t use the accessibility platform this year. He is very mobile and fit, which is really important to him as part of his NDIS goals. He regularly attend hydrotherapy and does exercise with a physiologist to keep him strong and improve his stability.

When we say that connecting to his community is extremely important for David, we absolutely mean it. He is super sociable and loves being out and about.

At the moment he has 1:1 community access, does bowling two nights a week and goes away to visit family every second weekend.

He also loves to participate in COMAC activities and is really looking forward to a trip to SeaWorld this month. And David’s excitement doesn’t end when he gets home, when he returns from time away, he’s always full of stories to share with his housemates.

We look forward to seeing what David gets up over the coming months.
