Community Solutions trainee, Clayton Lavis, has been selected as a regional finalist of the 2024 Queensland Training Awards (QTA) in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year category.
The category showcases Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students who are outstanding in all aspects of their training.
Clayton beat more than 800 applications to progress to the formal interview stage. After nailing his interview, he was one of three finalists chosen in the North Queensland region!
Clayton said the support of his team was a huge factor in his success.

“It is the ‘never give up’ or ‘just one more’ mentality, and having a team around you with this energy is a relief like no other,” he said.
“It truly gives you the push you need to do that assignment, or write that important email or just step outside your comfort zone… having that drive from co-workers does wonders!”
If Clayton wins the regional award, he will move on as a Queensland state finalist and be eligible for the Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year award. Good luck Clayton!
