After more than 60 years with Endeavour Foundation, James “Jimmy” Goddard has officially entered retirement, leaving behind a legacy that has touched the hearts of many. Starting as a young boy in the early 1960s at the Endeavour Foundation school in Cairns (now the Learning and Lifestyle Hub), Jimmy’s journey has been nothing short of inspiring. His early days were spent under the guidance of Mrs. Blanchard, learning skills, playing tennis and even practicing manual arts with Mr. Fox.

Jimmy’s time at Cairns social enterprise began in 1990, where he thrived, contributing to tasks like refurbishing Qantas headsets, helping with document destruction, working on trucks and sewing banana bags. Over the years, he mastered equipment like pallet jacks and sewing machines, always eager to lend a hand and learn something new.
As Jimmy neared retirement, the team worked closely with him, his sister Kay and his support network to ensure a smooth and thoughtful transition. With a reduced work roster and his introduction to the L&L program, Jimmy had the space to explore new interests while embracing the decision to retire on his own terms.
In September this year, Jimmy celebrated his final day of employment with a heartfelt morning tea surrounded by his partner, friends and colleagues.
His sister, Kay, expressed the family’s gratitude, saying:
“Thank you all for the kind and special last day for Jim.
“Jim’s involvement with Endeavour Foundation has provided a very special aspect to his life.
“It has given him a purpose and support to learn to contribute both physically and socially.
“Endeavour Foundation has made a huge difference to his life and to that of his family”
