Budding gardeners sow seeds of growth

The Keon Park L&L crew sure have green thumbs!.🌿

For the past two years, the hub’s gardening group has thrived as active members of the Coburg Community Garden. They’ve grown fresh fruit and vegetables, transforming them into mouth-watering dishes like pumpkin soup, pesto, salads, and even carrot cake!

This program has been a smashing success, empowering individuals with valuable skills in planting, harvesting, composting, and fertilising, all with the support of our dedicated employees and community garden partners.

Recently, they received the sad news that the community garden was closing its gates. In response, the undeterred gardeners thought of a brilliant solution: Bring the garden to them! The gardening group has since been busy rolling up their sleeves to create an onsite garden at their hub.

To jumpstart this endeavour, they organised a sweet bake sale, practising skills in budgeting, designing flyers and testing recipes. Their efforts paid off with a proud achievement of raising $85.

Coupled with a generous donation from our partners at Bunnings, these funds ensure the sustainability of their gardening program for years to come. The gardening group is excited to continue honing their gardening and cooking skills so they, and their onsite garden can thrive.
