Auslan is helping people Thrive@Work

Thrive at work with Auslan

Auslan (Australian sign language) is a language developed by, and for, Australians who are deaf or hearing impaired. At #TeamPossible, many of our staff use Auslan to better communicate with people with disability to understand how we can help make their possibilities a reality.

As part of our dedication to promoting an inclusive work culture, we have integrated Auslan into a few initiatives for both staff and our people.

Thrive@Work (now with Auslan)

Thanks to a grant of $2500 from the Deafness Foundation, we have been able to update five of our Thrive@Work videos with Auslan.

Thrive is our ever-growing learning resource for people with intellectual disability – a resource that has made its way throughout our sites and even into the wider community.

The ‘Personal Hygiene’ series of videos now contain captions and Auslan to improve accessibility.

You can watch them below.

L&L and community teams can also access these videos on the N:// Drive.

Learn Auslan with Chloe

Chloe works as an administration assistant in the finance team once a week and attends one of our Learning and Lifestyle Hubs.

Chloe is gradually losing her hearing so has been learning Auslan with her family for a few years.

“It helps to communicate with those who are deaf or to those who have trouble hearing and communicating things to people, like how they are feeling,” Chloe said.I hope one day I will see people in the office or outside of the office learning and using Auslan.”

To make this possibility a reality, we have launched ‘It’s time to learn Auslan with Chloe’.

Join Chloe as she teaches you a new word each week!

The first three weeks of content are now on the intranet. A video will be uploaded to the intranet every Tuesday (until 12 April).

If you would like to get to know Chloe better, check out her Q&A interview in this month’s #TeamPossible newsletter (under Support Functions).

And if you are interested in signing up to show your support, register now!
By signing up, you will receive a weekly notification email and be invited to a special online event starring Chloe on Auslan Day (April 13)!
