Kingaroy Kitchen employees, Andrew and Beth are leaders in the making, skilling up to create change in their lives and their community.
Earlier in the year, their supervisors encouraged them to apply for QDN’s 2022 Emerging Leaders Program – a leadership development program for people with disability – and supported them with their applications.

After a selection process, they were chosen along with 32 other people across Queensland for the 10-month program.
In March, Andrew and Beth attended a two-day workshop and are currently completing monthly training sessions online along with peer mentorship.
“[To me], disability leadership means sharing ideas and being heard and having a voice,” said Andrew.
The program provides them with the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and explore tools to create change and advocate for a disability-inclusive society.
They are involved in:
- monthly training sessions (face-to-face meetings, online interactive sessions),
- mentorship,
- community activities to develop critical thinking,
- exploring leadership theory practice and techniques,
- holding inquiring conversations,
- building relationships, and
- connecting with established leaders.
I want to make it so that people with disability are included and those with no disability see what we have to offer and not just exclude us,” said Beth. “It shouldn’t matter if you are disabled or not, we should all be helping each other.
Congratulations Andrew and Beth! 🎉 We look forward to following you both on your leadership journeys!
