A name in the making: Alex Hills L&L Focus Group

People we support at Alex Hills L&L recently took part in a special focus group, working together to name an exciting new program.

As part of a fall prevention partnership tender with Champion Life and UQ, the group explored different ideas that reflected the program’s goals. With guidance from Chris Beaumont, they shared their thoughts on what a great name should capture – safety, movement, balance and independence.

Here’s some points that were discussed before anyone voted on any names:

🗣 As people get older, their bodies aren’t as strong as they used to be. Sometimes, they start to trip over and fall.

🗣 We created 80 exercise videos to help people stay active and reduce falls.

🗣 If people keep doing exercises as they get older, they stay healthier and are less likely to fall.

🗣 We’re working with the University of Queensland to do a big study on helping people stop falling.

🗣 For people with disabilities, falls can sometimes happen at a younger age – like in their 50s. That’s why we want to help people stay healthy for as long as possible.

🗣 We need a name for this program! Right now, we’re just calling it ‘Keeping People Safe Without Falling,’ but we’d love a better one.

This was a fantastic opportunity for people we support to have their voices heard in shaping something meaningful. Stay tuned to see the final name they chose!

Update: After much thoughtful discussion and collaboration, the group proudly chose the name Safe & Sure for the program.
