2024 Fair Work Commission: Wage increase

Recently the Fair Work Commission announced a 3.75% increase to the minimum wage rates of Modern Awards as part of their annual wage review. Please visit the Fair Work Ombudsman website for more information about minimum wages.

The wage increase applies to all eligible employees, including employees we support and apprentices and trainees, not employed under an Individual Employment Contract (IEC). If you are employed under an IEC, your wage will be reviewed as part of our Annual Remuneration Review in October.

People and Wellbeing are now working on applying this new rate to all eligible employees who can expect the new rates to be processed into your pay on the following dates:

  • For supported employees in QLD the new rates will be effective 13/07/2024 and paid on 01/08/2024
  • For all other employees, including employees on an award wage and employees we support in NSW and VIC, the new rates will be effective 06/07/2024 and paid on 25/07/2024.

Here is an EasyRead you can share with employees we support to explain these changes in more detail.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a minimum wage?

All employees working in Australia are entitled to a minimum wage. This is the minimum amount you can be paid for the work that you are doing.

What is the increase?

The minimum wage increase is 3.75%.

Why is there an increase?

Every year, the Fair Work Commission reviews the wages within awards to keep up with inflation.

Where will I find information about the increase?

For more information on this announcement, please visit the Fair Work Ombudsman’s website.

Who will receive the increase?

This wage increase will be passed on to all eligible employees and supported employees NOT employed under Individual Employment Contracts (IEC).

When will the increase be paid?

The increase is effective on the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2024.

A “full pay period” is a complete cycle of your regular pay schedule that starts after July 1, 2024.

We have a fortnightly pay period and process pay for employees and employees we support on different days. This means that there are different payroll schedules for each group. Here is the breakdown below.

  • All eligible employees (incl. employees we support in NSW & VIC): The new rate starts on July 6, and you’ll see this increase in your pay on July 25 covering the period from 6 July onwards.
  • Employees we support in QLD: The new rate for supported employees starts from July 13, 2024. Their pay, covering the period from July 13 onwards, will be processed and deposited into their account on August 1, 2024.

My wage is above the relevant award wage. Will I still get an increase?

An increase of 3.75% may be partly or wholly absorbed if you are paid above the relevant award wage. Any employee who will not receive the full increase will be notified separately.

I have another question. Who can I ask?

Please lodge an enquiry through the #TeamPossible Support Hub.
